Uitgeverijen Quebec: Als je geen antifascist bent, wat ben je dan wel?

Als geëngageerde uitgeverijen uit Quebec willen wij onze grote bezorgdheid uiten over het uitvoeringsbesluit (Executive Order) dat op 22 september 2025 door de Amerikaanse president Donald Trump is ondertekend en getiteld is “Aanwijzing van Antifa [sic] als binnenlandse terroristische organisatie” (Designating Antifa as a Domestic Terrorist Organization).

Afgezien van de vele verontrustende en onjuiste beweringen in dit decreet, betuigen wij onze solidariteit met degenen die strijden tegen het fascisme – zowel op straat als op het gebied van ideeën – en veroordelen wij de toenemende onderdrukking waarmee deze mensen te maken hebben.

We zijn bijzonder bezorgd over de mogelijke gevolgen van deze politieke beslissing voor de vrijheid van meningsuiting en voor de culturele en intellectuele vormen van antifascisme, waaronder werken die we hier in Quebec publiceren, evenals die van onze kameraden en vrienden in de Verenigde Staten. Laten we duidelijk zijn: dit zijn niet langer louter dreigementen, de uitvoering is begonnen.

We roepen op tot solidariteit met auteurs die kritiek uiten op het fascisme en zich inzetten voor sociale rechtvaardigheid – stemmen die onder dit decreet rechtstreeks belaagd zouden kunnen worden. We hopen dat anderen in Quebec zich bij ons zullen aansluiten om deze politieke aanval op antifascistische bewegingen aan de kaak te stellen.

En tant que maisons d’édition engagées du Québec, nous tenons à exprimer notre vive inquiétude face au décret exécutif (Executive Order) signé le 22 septembre 2025 par le président des États-Unis Donald Trump et intitulé « Désignation de l’Antifa [sic] comme organisation terroriste intérieure » (Designating Antifa as a Domestic Terrorist Organization).

Au-delà des nombreuses affirmations troublantes et mensongères que contient ce décret, nous affirmons notre solidarité avec celles et ceux qui luttent contre le fascisme – dans les rues comme dans le champ des idées – et dénonçons la répression croissante à laquelle ces personnes font face.

Nous sommes particulièrement préoccupé·es par les répercussions possibles de cette décision politique sur la liberté d’expression et sur les formes culturelles et intellectuelles de l’antifascisme, qui incluent des ouvrages que nous publions ici même, au Québec, ainsi que ceux de nos camarades et ami·es aux États-Unis. Soyons clairs : il ne s’agit plus de simples menaces, l’exécution a commencé.

Nous appelons à la solidarité envers les auteur·es qui critiquent le fascisme et œuvrent pour la justice sociale – des voix qui pourraient, sous ce décret, être directement visées. Nous espérons que d’autres au Québec se joindront à nous pour dénoncer cette attaque politique contre les mouvements antifascistes.

As independent publishers of left-wing critical thought, we wish to express our deep concern regarding the executive order signed on September 22, 2025, by the US President Donald Trump, entitled “Designating Antifa as a Domestic Terrorist Organization.”

Beyond the many troubling and false claims contained in this order, we want to declare our solidarity with all those who fight against fascism – both in the streets and in the realm of ideas – and who speak out against the increasing repression they are facing.

We are particularly concerned about the possible repercussions of this political decision on freedom of speech and on cultural and on the various intellectual forms of antifascism, which include books that we publish here in Quebec, as well as those published by our comrades and friends in the United States. It is painfully clear : these are no longer threats; the execution has begun.

We call for solidarity with thinkers and writers who criticize fascism and defend social justice – voices that could be directly targeted by this executive order. We hope that more people in Quebec will join us in denouncing this political attack on antifascist movements.

Because if you’re not an antifascist, what are you?
