Brochure ‘No NATO War Summit’
On 24 and 25 June, a NATO summit will take place at the World Forum in The Hague, in a turbulent time for NATO. The alliance plays an important role in supporting Ukraine in the war following the Russian invasion of February 2022. Relations with Russia are at a low point, while China is seen as the main geopolitical competitor. There is also unrest around Europe, with conflicts in the Middle East and African governments opposing European influence, especially the continuing economic grip of the old colonizer France.
Simmering internal tensions, especially between the US and European member states, are also increasingly coming to the surface. The new American government led by Trump immediately put the relationship on edge after taking office. It sidelined the EU, announced negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, instructed European NATO countries to increase spending even more, called on them to oppose immigration and expressed support for extreme right-wing parties in Europe.
European NATO countries are reacting to the decrees from Washington with confusion, disbelief, resignation or contradiction, but it seems that most will move in the direction of Trump et al.’s wishes.
Read here the brochure about the NATO summit, what NATO is and does, the peace movement versus NATO, NATO and military spending, nuclear weapons and the arms industry.
