…en de verantwoordelijkheid van parlementair rechts / …and the responsibility of right-wing politics

Wij hebben van het Autonoom Collectief Leiden toestemming gekregen om onderstaande analyse van 22 september over de extreemrechtse demonstratie van zaterdag 20 september op onze website te zetten.

DE NOODZAAK VAN ANTIFASCISME

De opkomst van extreemrechts in heel Europa is niet nieuw voor degenen die opletten. Om elke reactionaire stroming als fascistisch te labelen zou de term betekenisloos maken, maar we zien de kenmerken van fascisme naar boven komen.
De zondebokpolitiek, het herboren ‘blut-und-boden’-nationalisme, het toenemende militarisme, de verering van “law & order’ en de steun voor de genocide in Palestina zijn allemaal indicatoren dat Europa het risico loopt de jaren twintig en dertig te herhalen.

The rise of the far-right across Europe isn’t new to those who have been paying attention. Of course, labelling every reactionary current as fascist would make the term meaningless, but we can see the innate characteristics of fascism coming to the forefront.
The scapegoating of minorities, reborn blood-and-soil nationalism, increasing militarism, worship of law & order and the support for the genocide in Palestine are all indicators that Europe risks repeating the horrors of the 1920s and 30s.

DE AANVAL OP ANTIFA

Na de moord op Charlie Kirk – die snel de nieuwe Horst Wessel van rechts aan het worden is – hebben de Verenigde Staten “ANTIFA” aangemerkt als terroristische organisatie. Als lakeien van het Amerikaanse imperialisme volgden rechtse partijen snel dit voorbeeld en stemden in met een motie in de Tweede Kamer.
Hoewel deze motie niet juridisch bindend is, symboliseert het de criminalisering van antifascisme.

After the murder of Charlie Kirk — who is quickly becoming the right’s new Horst Wessel – the United States has designated “ANTIFA” as a terrorist organisation. As lackeys of US imperialism, right wing parties quickly followed suit, passing a vote in the Dutch parliament.
Whilst this motion isn’t legally binding, it signifies the criminalisation of antifascism.

FASCISTISCH GEWELD KEERT TERUG

Gisteren reageerde elke politicus geschokt door het fascistische geweld in Den Haag. Slechts twee dagen na het aannemen van de ANTIFA-resolutie verzamelden diverse extreemrechtse en fascistische groeperingen zich op het Malieveld voor een “anti-immigratiedemonstratie”. Hoewel de demonstratie zelf slecht georganiseerd was door de amateuristische twitteraar ‘Els Rechts’ (Els Noort), was het geweld dat niet. Een groot deel van de menigte was duidelijk voorbereid op een confrontatie met de politie en mogelijke tegendemonstranten.

Yesterday, every politician acted as if they were shocked to see the fascist violence in The Hague. Just 2 days after passing the ANTIFA resolution, far-right and fascist groups gathered on the Malieveld for an “anti-immigration demonstration” Whilst the demonstration itself was amateurishly organised by twitter-user ‘Els Rechts’ (Els Noort), the violence was not. A large part of the fascist mob was clearly prepared for a confrontation with the police and potential counter-demonstrators.

WIE, WAT, WAAR?

Nadat de menigte zich begon te vervelen door Els’ weinig inspirerende opstelling van irrelevante rechtse politici, wandelde het grootste deel van de menigte naar de Utrechtsebaan (onderdeel van de A12). Na het gooien van vuurwerk zochten ze de confrontatie met de politie op. De politie, die in de minderheid was, zette waterkanonnen, bereden eenheden, pepperspray en traangas in. Nadat ze naar het centrum waren gedreven, vielen relschoppers omstanders, het Binnenhof en het hoofdkwartier van D66 aan.

After the crowd got bored by Els’ uninspiring lineup of D-tier right-wing politicians holding inane speeches, the majority of the crowd made their way to the Utrechtsebaan (part of the A12). After throwing fireworks, they sought to confront the police. Outnumbered, the police made use of water cannons, mounted units, pepperspray and teargas. After being driven into the center, rioters attacked bystanders, the Binnenhof and D66’s headquarters.

DE AFLOOP

Na de rellen veroordeelden politici het geweld. Het openlijke antisemitisme tijdens de demonstratie leidde tot brede verontwaardiging, hoewel zionistische organisaties zoals CIDI de wilde bewering deden dat dit iets is wat “extreemlinks” gemeen heeft met fascisten. Zoals gebruikelijk ging het debat tussen liberalen vooral over “polarisatie”, in plaats van over de overduidelijke fascistische opmars en de constante agitatie tegen migranten en minderheden.

Following the riots, politicians of all stripes condemned the violence. The blatant anti-semitism during the demonstration drew widespread condemnation, although Zionist organisations such as CIDI made the wild claim that this is something the “far left” has in common with fascists. As per usual, the main topic of debate among liberals was about “polarisation”, rather than the clear fascist ascendancy and constant agitation against migrants and minorities.

HOOLIGANS OF FASCISTEN?

Al onze favoriete “Law & Order” politici gaven voetbalhooligans de schuld, maar dit is niet los te zien van de extreemrechtse scene binnen hooligangroepen. Ze waren voorbereid op gewelddadige confrontaties, en zeker niet zonder politieke motieven. De aanwezigheid van de Prinsenvlag, die door de fascistische NSB bij extreemrechts populair werd gemaakt, is daar een voorbeeld van.

All of our favourite Law & Order politicians were quick to lay the blame on football hooligans, but it cannot be disconnected from the far-right scene within hooligan firms. They were prepared for violent confrontation, and certainly weren’t without political motives. The presence of the ‘Prinsenvlag’, popularised among the far right by the fascist NSB, exemplifies this.

NEP-ANTIFA PSY-OP

Extreemrechts wees ANTIFA al snel aan als oorzaak van de onrust, gebaseerd op een screenshot van een Facebookpagina van “Antifa Nederland” die beweerde het protest te hebben geïnfiltreerd. Dit verspreidde zich snel online. Zoals AFA Nederland al vaker heeft aangegeven, heeft deze groep geen enkele connectie met daadwerkelijke antifascistische groepen. Een snelle blik op hun Facebookpagina maakt duidelijk dat ze er vooral op uit zijn om rechts-extremisten op te hitsen, desinformatie te verspreiden en antifascisten in diskrediet te brengen.

The far-right were quick to blame ANTIFA as the cause of the unrest, based on a screenshot from a fake “Antifa Nederland” page claiming to have infiltrated the protest that quickly made the rounds online. As AFA Nederland has made clear many times, this group has no association with any actual anti-fascist groups. A quick glance at their Facebook makes it very obvious that it is mostly there to ragebait right-wingers, spread disinformation and discredit antifascists.

HOE VERDER?

Fascistische mobilisatie op deze schaal zou iedereen zorgen moeten baren. Marsen tegen racisme en fascisme zijn belangrijk, maar wat hard nodig is, is het creëren van een breder antifascistisch sentiment. Dit kan alleen via initiatieven op lokale schaal, waarbij buren en gemeenschappen met elkaar in contact worden gebracht, in verzet tegen fascisme. Dit moet gekoppeld worden aan een antikapitalistische politiek en solidariteit tussen de arbeidersklasse, want het is het kapitaal dat fascisme steunt en de verspreiding ervan mogelijk maakt.

Fascist mobilisation at this scale should worry everyone. Marches against racism and fascism are important, but what is sorely needed is to create a broader anti-fascist sentiment in society. This can only be done through grass-roots initiatives on a local scale, connecting neighbours and communities in opposition to fascism. This has to be tied to an anti-capitalist politics and working-class solidarity, as it is capital that backs fascism and allows it to spread.
