Final Update: Boss balks at bad publicity, Jan finally gets what he’s owed (plus interest).

The franchiser’s husband, who only two weeks ago threatened us with legal action if we continued to follow up on Jan’s unpaid wages, has now arranged the payment of the last amount owed to Jan. This includes the interest that had accrued from their failure to pay the initial wages. It seems that a couple of instagram posts were enough to get the message across that we weren’t planning on stopping so easily.

In typical horeca-boss form, the franchiser seemed to be pretty worried about how his business might be affected by Jan’s mistreatment going public — a lot more worried than they were about paying their workers.

This campaign shows again that when workers can take matters into their own hands, it works! So let’s organise with each other against the systems that bosses use to steal even more from workers than the law already allows.
