Press release – No Border Camp 2023 started

No Border Camp 2023 in Groningen has started– week of actions and workshops against repressive border and migration policies

Groningen, 21 August 2022 – This morning the No Border Camp 2023 has started at the terrain between Paddepoelsterweg 14 and 16 in Groningen. Over the coming week, hundreds of international activists will gather for actions, meetings, workshops, discussion and culture in the context of the struggle for a world without borders and freedom of movement for all.

It is no coincidence that this year’s No Border Camp is taking place in the north of the Netherlands, where only a year ago Ter Apel became the face of the failing migration policy. The border policy not only causes tragedy far from the Netherlands, such as the recent shipping disaster off the Greek coast, the consequences are also visible here. Everyone in the Netherlands remembers the images of the hundreds of people who had to spend the night in front of the gate of the registration centre in Ter Apel. Other degrading situations are taking place in the emergency shelters in the area and the rest of the country.

At the No Border Camp different topics will be discussed, such as the inhumane treatment of asylum seekers in Ter Apel, the way the EU uses Balkan countries in their geopolitical game, the history of the no border movement in the Netherlands and the effects of border and asylum policy on the health of pregnant people and those giving birth.

The camp is organized by a coalition of activists from different groups in the Netherlands and follows the previous No Border Camps in Rotterdam (2013 and 2022) and Wassenaar (2019). In 2022, demonstrations were organized during the No Border Camp at Nationale Nederlanden and Detention Centre Rotterdam (DCR).

Persbericht – No Border Camp 2023 gestart – week met acties en workshops tegen repressief grens- en migratiebeleid

Groningen, 21 augustus 2023 – Vanmorgen is het No Border Camp 2023 van start gegaan op het terrein tussen Paddepoelsterweg 14 en 16 in Groningen. Gedurende de week zullen daar enkele honderden internationale activisten samenkomen voor acties, bijeenkomsten, workshops, discussie en meer in het kader van de strijd voor een wereld zonder grenzen en bewegingsvrijheid voor iedereen.

Het No Border Camp vraagt aandacht voor het repressieve en gemilitariseerde grens- en migratiebeleid van Nederland en de EU. Het is geen toeval dat het No Border Camp dit jaar in het noorden van het land plaatsvindt, waar vorig jaar Ter Apel het symbool werd van een falend migratiebeleid. Het grensbeleid zorgt namelijk niet alleen voor tragisch leed ver van Nederland, zoals recentelijk de scheepsramp voor de Griekse kust, de gevolgen zijn ook in hier zichtbaar. Iedereen herinnert zich de beelden van de honderden mensen die de nacht door moesten brengen voor de poort van het aanmeldcentrum in Ter Apel. Daarnaast voltrekken zich er ook in de noodopvangen, zoals in Zuidbroek, mensonterende situaties.

Op het No Border Camp zullen verschillende onderwerpen de revue passeren, zoals de onmenselijke behandeling van asielzoekers in Ter Apel, hoe de EU Balkan-landen gebruikt in hun geopolitieke spel, de historie van de no border-beweging in Nederland en de effecten van grens- en asielbeleid op de gezondheid van zwangere en barende mensen.

Het kamp wordt georganiseerd door een coalitie van activisten van verschillende groepen in Nederland en volgt de eerdere No Border Camps in Rotterdam (2013 en 2022) en Wassenaar (2019). In 2022 werden er tijdens het No Border Camp demonstraties georganiseerd bij onder andere Nationale Nederlanden en Detention Centre Rotterdam (DCR).
